Britain is made up of so many different regions each with it's own unique charm. We really do live in a very diverse and colourful land which has inspired artists for centuries to create some wonderful works of art. The regions are shown below along with a short description of the works they inspired.

Scotland |

The breathtaking Highlands and Glens of Scotland home to Queen Victoria's favourite artist Edwin Landseer. This mythical and inspiring landscape was the inspiration for some great British artists such as Horatio McCulloch, William McTaggart, James Humbert Craig, Felix Mendelssohn and JMW Turner.

Wales |

The mountains and valleys of Wales with it's legends and folk lore. The spectacular Snowdonia National Park and the work of Richard Wilson considered a founding father of British landscape painting. This is a region of wonderful natural beauty and a world of myths and megaliths redolent of an ancient Celtic past.

Ireland |

On Achill Island, the northern Irish painter Paul Henry found the 'soul of Ireland' amongst the windswept rocks and beaches of this secluded island. And in Northern Ireland, a whole school of northern Irish painters found inspiration amongst the beautiful Glens of Antrim. James Humbert Craig built a studio by the sea in Cushendun and composed many paintings of this beautiful village.

From the magnificent white cliffs of Dover and the rural idyll of Kent, to bustling Brighton and the South Downs. This area of Britain that has always been the most at risk from enemy invaders and has captivated artists for centuries.

England - East |
 |
|
The flatlands of the east of England has the biggest skies of all areas of the UK. This part of Britain has spawned more landscape painters per square mile than almost anywhere else in Britain.
From the Constable and Gainsborough country in Suffolk to the Norfolk Broads, the Fens and the East coast.

England - Midlands |
 |
|
England's heartland which was once it's industrial core, a place of darkness, child labour and disease and inspiration for some of englands finest artists including the painter L.S. Lowry who captured scenes of smoking chimneys and terraced housing of Britain's industrial landscape. Lowry's pictures today offer a window onto a vanished world. This is also the subject of works by J. C. Bourne and JMW Turner.
