Tate Sisters

Tate Sisters
Nationality: British
Date of Birth:
Location: London

Emeline and Claudia Tate are sisters and artists. They have participated in thirty exhibitions in London and seven in California. The Tate Sisters continually display art in their house in London and use the ground floor as a gallery which is open by appointment.

As siblings, the Tate Sisters exert a constant influence on each other when developing their art. They provide one another with a steady stream of both inspiration and constructive criticism. They work together with one vision and twice the inspiration.

Bold colours, shapes, images and typography are used to express their ideas – which are inspired by things seen and by personal experiences. Fabrics such as canvas and denim provide a starting point that influences the tone of the work. Acrylic, oil, gloss paint or ink is then applied in blocks, or stenciled.

Emeline moved to California in 2005, while Claudia continues to live and work in London. This is an exhilarating and challenging time for them both. An ocean apart, they are maintaining their artistic collaboration online, sending photographs of work in progress to each other in cyberspace.
